Construction has been completed on a first of its kind Zero Ultimate Oxygen Demand (UOD) Wastewater Treatment Facility in the City of Port Wentworth.  It is a 2.0 Million Gallon per Day (MGD) Wastewater Treatment Facility and is permitted to discharge to the Savannah River and will produce reuse-quality effluent.  The Facility is the only WWTF in the Southeastern US capable of producing an effluent that will not degrade the receiving stream.  The Facility utilizes the Speece Cone Oxygenation Technology.  This technology was piloted on the Savannah River by the COE to mitigate the potential effects on dissolved oxygen from the deepening of the Savannah Harbor.
